What is the deal with the short stops, I thought the pickins’ where slip at second base this season, but it is looking like the short stops are even more thin once you get past that first tier. Hanley Ramirez is clearly the best shortstop in fantasy and should be given real consideration as the number one overall pick. My top tier ends with Troy Tulowitzki, but in my opinion he could easily post enough stats to be put second on this list. If you can land one of those top four you will be sittin’ pretty on draft day. Ben Zobrist should still have SS eligibility in many leagues this season. I doubt he posts the stats he did last year, but the Rays have given him an everyday job and that alone is enough to rank him just behind ol’ faithful, Derek Jeter in this list. Jason Bartlett is another guy that falls in the “who knows” category. His numbers last season would have him ranked higher than this, but I expect a downturn in his stats and you should too. From that point on out you are looking at guys with “up-side”; so who do I think is going to come through and who do I think is going to hit the FA pool before the end of the first month? OK, hear I go! Alexei Ramirez will surprise people this year. He should have a little return to the power stroke, but don’t expect anything more than a .265 average. Elvis Andrus has me believing, I just love him in that Ranger line-up…oh you say he’s hitting ninth…so what, he should still score a ton of runs and if I missed on the top guys, I would settle with him and expect solid production. Two out of the three Cabrera’s on my list I have faith in…Asdrubal and Everth. Now I ranked one much higher than the other indicating my level of faith. Asdrubal Cabrera should steal some bases (around 30) and have a solid average, making him much less risky that Everth Cabrera who is hitting at the top of the Padres line-up, has no proven track record, will steal bases, but will have a .255 average by the end of the season. If you are looking to add depth, you can play with your Scutaro or your Tejada, but neither of them excite me all that much. Erick Aybar is the final guy I would take a flyer on this season. He has the speed hitting at the top of the Angels line-up to possibly replace the loss of Figgins. Will he be hitting high in the line-up? Will he hit at all? Will he be on base and get opportunities to steal bases and score runs? The answer to that is unknown, but if he does, he will hold solid value. I say take a flyer.
